Reaching the Bottom: A Deep Milestone at 40 Main St.
On Tuesday Oct. 7, 2025, we hit a major milestone that most people will never see once the building is finished, but it is perhaps the most critical part of our journey: We have officially reached the bottom of the dig!

After weeks of careful excavation and precision engineering, our team has reached the target depth for the foundation of 40 Main Street. Looking down into the site from the street level, you can finally see the true "footprint" of what is to come.
The Art of the Excavation
Reaching this point is a massive logistical feat. Working in the heart of Downtown Los Altos means we don't just "dig a hole"—we execute a highly choreographed removal of earth while ensuring the absolute stability of the surrounding streets and buildings.
Our partners at Base Builders have managed this phase with surgical precision:
- Shoring & Stability: As we went deeper, our team installed sophisticated shoring systems to reinforce the perimeter, keeping the site and our neighbors' properties perfectly secure.
- Volume of Work: It took hundreds of truckloads to move the earth necessary to make room for our state-of-the-art underground systems and the massive foundation that will support 40 Main for generations.
The Turning Point: From "Down" to "Up"
For the past few months, our progress has been measured by how deep we could go. Starting tomorrow, that narrative flips. Reaching the bottom means the "sub-grade" work is nearly complete, and we are officially preparing to start building up.
The next phase is arguably the most exciting yet: the installation of the massive rebar cage and the preparation for our first major concrete pour.
